Idle Sleep Mattress Overview
IDLE Sleep might not be the most popular mattress online, but they do offer an impressive product catalog when it comes to diversity and accommodation. You can find a flippable mattress, a budget mattress, beds suitable for memory foam lovers, and an eco-friendly latex mattress. The beauty of IDLE’s mattresses is that they’re all extremely accommodating of all sleeper types and body types. The IDLE Sleep Hybrid, which is what we’ll mostly focus on here, comes in two firmness levels, and while some side sleepers could find it a touch too firm, we think it provides an ample amount of pressure relief to be comfortable. As for combo, stomach, and back sleepers, well, we think you’ll love this mattress.
IDLE Sleep has a little bit of everything when it comes to mattresses, and we’ll go through a few of the options here and highlight what there is to love about all of them in our IDLE mattress review.

We’ve included the chart above to give you an idea of the different IDLE Sleep beds and the kind of features or perks they offer to sleepers. You can also use the jumplinks below if you want to skip to a certain part of our Idle Sleep Review.
Because the Idle Hybrid is the company’s most popular mattress and our favorite, we thought it was only fitting to start there. Below you’ll find all the information you’ll need to decide whether this bed is right for you.
Idle Hybrid Mattress Flippable Design
The Idle Hybrid is a double-sided, flippable mattress, so its construction is sort of like a sandwich. The Hybrid has seven layers within its cover:

- Quilted foam: 1” of Idle Quilting Foam for softness
- Airflow foam: 1” of Air Flow Response Foam for bounce and breathability
- Transition layer: 2” of Cooling Buoyancy Foam for responsiveness and pressure relief
- Pocketed coils: 6” of pocketed Quantum Edge-to-Edge pocketed coils for support
- Transition layer: 2” of Cooling Buoyancy Foam for responsiveness and pressure relief
- Airflow foam: 1” of Air Flow Response Foam for bounce and breathability
- Quilted foam: 1” of Idle Quilting Foam for softness
The mattress has a soft cover made from Thermocool fabric, which Idle says works with your body temperature to keep you from getting too hot or too cold.
How Does The Idle Sleep Bed Feel?
Firmness
You can choose between a medium option and a luxury firm option. The medium version is the most popular, and, as such, that’s what we’ll primarily be referring to in this post.

The medium version is a medium on our firmness scale. Of course, your weight will determine how the bed feels to you. If you’re heavier, it’ll feel softer, and if you’re petite, it’ll feel firmer.
Idle’s Hybrid bed has a surprisingly soft foam feel to it, considering it has those coils. It sort of feels like an innerspring bed but with a thick, soft foam topper.
If we had to pick one mattress that we think it feels like, we’d say it feels similar to the Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress. Although you do sink into the bed a bit, it is impressively responsive. You don’t feel stuck, and you won’t have trouble turning over at night.
Pressure relief
The soft foam feel, coupled with the coils, gives the IDLE Sleep Hybrid Mattress a good amount of pressure relief. Side sleepers, who typically need the most pressure relief in a mattress because of the way their body is laying on the mattress, should feel content with the amount of pressure relief here.
It will differ slightly between the medium and luxury firm options — the luxury firm obviously more firm — so side sleepers may be happier with the pressure relief in the Medium. The Luxury Firm might be a bit too firm to provide comfortable pressure relief unless you sleep on your back/stomach.
Temperature
Although the company likes to play up its cooling materials, we think this bed is temperature neutral, which isn’t a bad thing.
Bottom line: this mattress won’t actively keep you cool, nor should you heat up excessively. However, heavier individuals may find it sleeps a little warm because they will sink into the mattress more.

Is Idle Hybrid A Good Mattress For Couples?
When couples are in search of a mattress for themselves, they need to consider a few things that a single sleeper doesn’t have to think about.
Edge Support

The edge support with this bed is good. As you migrate toward the edges, you’ll notice a little bit of compression, but you never get that roll-off feeling, which is nice. Typically the firmer beds will have better edge support because they are compressing less.
Motion Isolation
The thickness and foam layers mean that there is a decent amount of motion isolation with this mattress. However, the coils will still allow for some motion transfer. You might still feel your partner moving while you sleep if they move a lot.
Idle Sleep Pricing And Discounts
If you simply look at the MSRP of the Idle Hybrid, it appears to be a somewhat pricey mattress. Below is a summary table that shows MSRP by size.
Idle Hybrid Mattress Review Verdict
Overall, we like this bed. We think it’s underrated. It checks a lot of boxes. Bottom line—if you’re looking for a durable mattress that is comfortable and accommodates all sleeper types and body types, the Idle Hybrid is a great choice.

Idle Gel Foam Mattress Review
The Idle Gel Foam mattress is one of the newest additions to the company’s mattress lineup. On the company’s website, the bed takes a couple of different names. In certain spots, you’ll see it called “The Idle,” and in other places, you’ll see it called the “The Idle Gel Foam.” In reality, the main thing you need to know about this bed is that it’s the company’s entry-level or budget-tier offering.

Mattress Construction
This bed has a completely different construction from the Idle Hybrid Sleep Hybrid Mattress. This is an all-foam mattress that stands at 12″ thick. Below is a description of the layers from bottom to top.
- 7” High-density support foam: This layer forms the foundation for the bed.
- 2” Transition foam: This layer acts as a soft yet responsive middle layer that is also perforated for breathability purposes.
- 3” Cooling buoyancy foam: think of this layer as a slightly more responsive version of memory foam.
Feel And Firmness
The Idle Gel Foam mattress has a memory foam feel. As you lay down on the surface of the bed, you’ll feel the top comfort layer conform and wrap your body. As far as firmness, we think the Idle Gel Foam mattress rates out near the middle of the firmness scale (medium). Like most memory foam beds, it feels firm at first, but then after a few seconds, it softens up as you nestle in, and the top layer contours to your body’s shape.
Sleeper Types

Because the bed ultimately lands somewhere around the medium mark on the firmness scale, we think the Idle Gel Foam is a viable option for all types of sleepers.
Side sleepers will appreciate the conforming and pressure-relieving qualities of the top memory foam layer, while back and stomach sleepers still receive the necessary support under their lumbar region. Combination sleepers who rotate between positions will also find the bed comfortable.
Idle Gel Foam Mattress Price
The Idle Gel Foam mattress is similar in price to Idle’s other mattresses. After discounts, though, it’s significantly cheaper than well-known online mattresses such as Casper, Puffy and Purple. The MSRP ranges from around $910 for a twin size to $1,710 for a king size, but Idle nearly always has a discount running that will slash that price much lower.
Idle Gel Foam Review Verdict
At close to $700 for a queen size after discount, it’s tough to argue the Idle Gel Foam is not a solid value. The bed has a comfortable memory foam feel and accommodates sleepers in all positions. Bottom line, if money is tight and you generally like the feel of memory foam, this mattress definitely deserves your consideration.
Idle Gel Plush Mattress Review
The Idle Gel Plush mattress is the next step up from the company’s budget-tier Gel Foam model. As you will find out, the bed incorporates an additional foam layer and is 2” thicker than the standard model. It’s geared more toward consumers who are willing to spend a little more for a thicker, slightly more advanced memory foam bed.
Construction
The bed layers on this mattress is as follows:

- 8” High-density support foam: This serves as the foundation for the mattress.
- 3” Memory foam: This acts as a soft transition in the mattress.
- 3” Gel-infused buoyancy foam: This layer is a more responsive version of memory foam.
- 1” Cooling buoyancy foam: This is the true comfort layer for the bed.
Feel And Firmness
The Idle Gel Plush mattress has a dense, viscous memory foam feel. This shouldn’t come as a shock, though, considering the bed essentially utilizes 7” of memory foam in its construction. The feel of the bed is similar to that of Nectar or Tempur-Pedic, meaning the top layers conform to your body to the point where it almost feels like it’s hugging you.

Although the company states the Gel Plush model is supposed to be a notch or two softer than the standard Gel Foam model, we think it still lands somewhere in the medium firmness range, depending, of course, on your body type and weight.
Sleeper Types
Given the bed toes a fine line between soft/comfort and firm/support, we think the Idle Gel Plush mattress will work for all types of sleepers. The only difference is that the Gel Plush mattress, in our opinion, is not as ideal for combination sleepers.
Because the bed uses more memory foam, there’s slightly more resistance when attempting to switch between positions. All this means is that it may take a little more effort when moving from your back to your stomach or vice versa.
Price
At first glance, the Idle Gel Plush mattress appears to be more expensive than the average online bed. The MSRP ranges from around $1,310 for a twin size to $2,310 for a king size. However, you’ll often find a discount, so you can expect to generally pay less.
Idle Gel Plush Review Verdict
The story with the Idle Gel Plush mattress is that we like it, but we’re not sure it’s worth the additional money compared to the standard Idle Gel Foam bed. Ultimately, unless you want a deep, viscous memory foam feel, we’d recommend saving the money and going with the Gel Foam model.

IDLE Sleep Vs
Idle sent us all of their mattresses so that we could test them. However, we are under no obligation to provide a favorable review or endorsement of their beds. We retain full editorial control over the content on our website and have not accepted any monetary compensation from the brand to provide this review.
Idle mattresses are made in the United States.
The Idle hybrid mattress will work with most platform beds, adjustable bases, box springs, and slatted frames. Most online beds work this way. You can use them with a variety of surfaces, including the plain old ground.
So far, Idle Sleep is an online-only company. That’s not to say that in the future, they won’t open up retail stores or start selling at a brick-and-mortar retailer, but as of now, they only sell beds through IdleSleep.com. We have seen other brands venture out into the world of brick and mortar retail, but those are few and far between. Most of the mega-brands like Casper and Purple are doing the job but still selling online as well.
They also sell a pillow, sheets, mattress protector, adjustable bed frame, platform bed, and mattress foundation. It doesn’t look like the accessories are a major focus for Idle Sleep. Interestingly enough, their adjustable bed frame looks just like the Lucid L300 Adjustable Bed Frame.
For most people, we think the Hybrid is the “safe” pick. It’s not necessarily any better than the others, but we think it’s the easy choice that most people will like.
They have the CertiPUR-US certification.
They do! While the mattresses typically just ship for free, you can pay a fee for white glove delivery.
You definitely can! Idle actually offers a very generous 18-month trial period, and if you change your mind any time during that period, you can return it for free.
It really is. Because the mattress has coils and is on the firmer side, heavier people should have no problem getting comfortable on it.
