Amerisleep is known for their wide selection of mattresses from soft, firm, and everything in between. The AS5 Amerisleep mattress is the softest of the bunch, and they call it their most luxurious option. This is because it’s the thickest, the most plush, and as a result, the most expensive. We think this bed will appeal most to strict side sleepers or folks who want a very soft, very dense memory foam feel. If that sounds like something you’re interested in, keep reading below.
Amerisleep AS5 Mattress Firmness and Feel
The AS5 mattress from Amerisleep, opposed to the other models, is four layers thick. That means it uses the most foam from all the Amerisleep mattresses. As such, the bed feels like very dense memory foam. In fact, it reminds us of the Nectar mattress or TempurPedic. With that said, it doesn’t give you that “stuck” feeling that some memory foam beds do, so it’s much easier to switch positions.
If you want a bed as soft as a pillow or a big marshmallow, this is the way to go. It’s one of the softest mattresses we’ve tested and is ultra-plush. You really feel contoured by the Bio-Pur memory foam that hugs your body.
- Pressure Relief
This is one pressure-relieving mattress. So much so that there isn’t as much support as one might want in a bed. We think it’ll be the most pressure-relieving for side sleepers, but if you sleep on your back or side, you might want a slightly firmer bed.
The AS5 mattress is made with the same open-celled Bio-Pur memory foam that the other beds are made with. As a result, it sleepers more temperature neutral than hot. With that being said, you do sink into the layers more on this mattress than the others. When you sleep more inside of a bed than on top of it (i.e., a firm bed), it sleeps a little warmer. Though, we don’t think it’ll be a problem for most.
Amerisleep AS5 Construction and Design
The AS5 Amerisleep mattress is the thickest of the bunch and incorporates the most layers. In total, this hefty foam bed 14” thick. It’s also available in hybrid construction, where the bottom foam layer is replaced with a supportive pocketed coil base.
- Bio-Core Foam —This layer is in every Amerisleep mattress, and it serves as the foundation for the rest of the bed. Essentially, all it is is dense, firm poly foam.
- Affinity Transition Poly Foam — A softer foam than the one below to help neutralize the firm feel.
- Active Flex Layer — This layer is specific to the AS5 and is meant to provide additional cushion and plushness.
- Bio-Pur Memory Foam — All Amerisleep beds, including the AS5 mattress, include a comfort layer made with Bio-Pur memory foam. It has an open-celled structure you can see above that makes it better at promoting airflow than your traditional memory foam mattress.
- Amerisleep Mattress Cover
The cover on this mattress is…drum roll please…machine washable! We aren’t able to say that about many mattresses, so we are pretty excited about this feature. Just make sure to use a mild detergent and dry on a low setting.
Of all the Amerisleep beds, this is definitely the most durable. It’s extra thick, especially if you compare it to popular mattresses like Casper or Nectar. However, it’s not as durable as a hybrid mattress that’s made with pocketed coils in the foundation.
Sleeper Type Analysis
Everyone has their own way of sleeping, and you typically have one or two dominant sleeping positions, whether it be back, side, stomach, or a combination. The Amerisleep is a comfortable bed, but it’s not perfect for everyone.
- Side SleepersGood For
The AS5 mattress is going to be best for side sleepers, especially if you’re a more petite side sleeper. This is one plush mattress, and it will be perfectly suitable for side sleepers who love an extra soft feel.
- Back And Stomach SleepersNot So Good For
Back and stomach sleepers of all weights should probably steer clear of this bed. We don’t think it will provide enough support to keep your back and spine in neutral alignment while you sleep at night.
- Combination SleepersNot So Good For
Unless you primarily sleep on your side, this bed will be a little too soft. The only exception would be a petite combination sleeper who switches between their side and another position because it would likely feel like a medium-soft in that case, rather than a solid soft.
Body Type Analysis
Your weight and the amount of pressure you put onto a mattress matters. Here’s how we’d recommend the AS5 mattress according to the different body types.
- Petite Individuals
The AS5 mattress is perfectly accommodating for petite sleepers under 150 lbs, and it will likely feel like more of a medium-soft than soft.
- Average Individuals
For people in between the weight of 150 to 230 lbs, the AS5 Amerisleep bed will work just fine!
- Heavy Individuals
If you weigh over 230 lbs, we recommend the AS5 hybrid! It’ll have the same soft feel, just with a supportive pocketed coil foundation.
Will Amerisleep Beds Work For Couples?
If you share a mattress with your significant other, we suggest you consider a bed’s edge support and motion isolation capabilities, especially if your partner is an avid middle-of-the-night-waker-upper.
Motion Isolation And Noise
After testing the AS5 mattress for motion isolation using our trusty water glass test, we found that it didn’t spill or shake when we rolled around on the mattress. The memory foam is great at absorbing motion, and the bed makes no noise.
This is especially important if you plan on sharing a full or queen size mattress. How supportive is the bed’s perimeter? The AS5 hybrid is definitely better at this than the foam model, but the foam model is average for a memory foam bed.
Amerisleep Pricing & Coupon Code
The softer beds in the Amerisleep mattress get steeper and steeper in price, and this is the softest mattress they offer. A queen size Amerisleep AS5 mattress retails for around $2,500, but they often run discounts that’ll take that price down $800 or more.
Amerisleep Review Verdict
Now that we’ve reached the finale of our Amerisleep mattress review, here’s a wrap-up of our final thoughts. It’s best for side sleepers who want a very soft mattress, and it’s all the way to the soft end of our firmness scale. The foam AS5 is also more accommodating for petite to average-weighted individuals, while the AS5 hybrid is perfect for heavy sleepers or average-weighted sleepers looking for additional support. If you don’t end up liking your bed, you always have their risk-free trial to fall back on.

That depends who’s asking! It’s good for people who want an extra soft mattress, like side sleepers. Also, it’s best for people who enjoy memory foam.
It’s one of the more expensive beds in the Amerisleep mattress lineup, as a queen size AS5 retails around $2,500. Though, expect the price to be lower by $400 plus with discounts.
